Understanding the complete measurement chain

Our team works with visible and infrared cameras, FTIR spectrometers, radiometers, meteorological instruments, and specialized EO/IR systems. We support customers who need a new collection system as well as teams improving an instrument they already own.

Applied optical engineering

From analysis to a working prototype

Lightstorm personnel have used lasers and optical systems in applications ranging from scientific research and medical systems to alignment, communications, and defense.

01

Optical Design

Use modeling tools such as ZEMAX to evaluate performance, packaging, tolerances, and trade space.

02

Laboratory Mock-Up

Build and test representative configurations to verify performance before committing to final hardware.

03

Prototype System

Integrate optics, mechanics, electronics, software, calibration, and data products into a usable assembly.

Representative systems

Sensor development for specific mission data

Our work includes laser-communication support, surrogate sensors, field-test instrumentation, radiometers, camera systems, telescope-based systems, counter-UAS (c-UAS) sensing and test support, and lightweight UAV payloads.

Representative portable system

Portable laser capability for calibration and testing

Transportable laser systems provide a controlled optical source for sensor calibration, detector-response checks, alignment, and end-to-end system evaluation. The equipment can be configured for laboratory work or deployed to a field site when the test geometry and operating environment need to represent real use.

Portable hardware supports efficient setup, repeatable measurements, and coordinated testing with cameras, radiometers, telescopes, and other electro-optical sensors.
